Lakeshore Public Television is a publicly supported television station serving the people of Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland communities. Our mission is to bring you quality PBS and original programming to educate, enlighten and inform. As your trusted resource for local news, weather, sports and public affairs, Lakeshore Public Television keeps you connected.
This station was first introduced to the nation's third largest television market on November 15, 1987 when it signed on the air for the first time as WYIN Channel 56. Distinguished as one of only a few alternative public television services in the country and Northwest Indiana's only broadcast television station, we set out to serve as a unique resource for those communities not served or represented in the Chicago media.
Through the years, we have remained steadfast in our resolve to represent the ideals of those underserved communities through our focus on local issues and interests, while at the same time providing an alternative to the national PBS schedule. Additional focus on equipment upgrades, signal strength improvements and successful outreach initiatives, such as Ready to Learn and Speaking of Women's Health have led to a renewed sense of purpose.
Steady, committed leadership and strong individual efforts have created a station that the community can rely on and invest in. With a clear vision and promise, the station will continue to look to donors and investors to further its potential.
